Barack Obama on Iraq

http://www.barackobama.com/issues/iraq/

Obama has always made it clear that he does not support the war effort in Iraq. He has spoken out against the war in Iraq many times, often putting his political career on the line. In 2002 he spoke out saying that “an occupation of undetermined length, with undetermined costs and undetermined consequences." Now that what he had predicted has actually happened, he has a well thought out plan to fix this serious issue.

First and foremost, Obama wants to bring our troops home. He plans to take out two combat brigades each month which means that in 16 months, all of them will be back home. After the troops are home, it is going to be important to stabilize the situation through political negotiations. Obama relies on the help of the United Nations to revise Iraq’s Constitution and governance. He also plans on making Iraq’s neighbors including Syria Iran to help secure Iraq’s borders and ensure no conflict from outside forces. He has also said that it is very important to isolate Al Qaeda. Barack Obama even goes one step further and plans on spending $2 billion dollars to ensure the safety of over two million refugees.

Obama has proved through his record that he does not want our troops to be over in Iraq. Not only is it detrimental for our equipment (40% of our weapons are in Iraq or being repaired), but it is obviously something that has affected so many American families. Many of our troops have been killed or injured, many families torn apart. Obama believes that there is a much more definite and non-violent way to solve the problems in Iraq. I agree with Obama. While I do support each of the troops in Iraq that are fighting, I want them to come home. I feel that there must be a better and more constructive way to fix the problems in Iraq without losing many American lives in war.
