Obama's Abortion Extremism

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/04/01/AR2008040102197.html?hpid=opinionsbox1

Michael Gerson wrote a column on Obama’s stance on abortion. And I agree with him, I think Obama’s stance on abortion is way too extreme as well. I still haven’t considered myself a Republican or a Democrat yet, although a majority of issues I lean more towards the liberal side. This particular issue however, is one that leans me more towards the Republican side. Being raised in a very Conservative and religious family I was always taught to respect life, and know that life is precious and no one should take away another’s life. I take a strong pro-life stance and believe in the rights of the unborn. However, I do believe there may be some exceptions to this stance in the cases of rape or incest, or to save the life of the mother. But besides that I don’t see any logical or reasonable argument to not ban abortion. If someone made a mistake and wasn’t being responsible then they should have to live with their mistake and grow up and take responsibility instead of taking an easy way out and killing an innocent life.

Obama stated that he would not want his daughters to be "punished with a baby" because of a crisis pregnancy. In other words it seems like he is saying that unplanned children are “mistakes” and are a “punishment.” He obviously doesn’t understand how precious a new life is. There are millions of women out there that would give anything to be able to get pregnant and have children and they can’t. Being able to have children is a gift that we should all should respect and not take for granted. Since abortion is legal, I believe that we should at least have some restrictions on it.

Barack opposed the ban on partial-birth abortion and strongly criticized the Supreme Court decision upholding the partial-birth ban. Partial-birth, in case someone doesn’t know, refers to a late-term abortion method which induces a breech delivery and collapses the fetal skull before completing delivery. Obama also opposed a bill similar to the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act, which prevents the killing of infants mistakenly left alive by abortion.

This is just like killing someone! The baby has feeling at this stage and someone can just decide whether or not to kill it? They should just have the baby and then put it up for adoption, where millions of women would love to have him, instead of just killing him. I believe that the Supreme Court's decision is an example of the progress we have made in protecting human dignity and upholding the sanctity of life. I think we should continue to work for the day when every child is welcomed in life and protected in law.
