Inner-city education

“I don't want to send another generation of American children to failing schools. I don't want that future for my daughters. I don't want that future for your sons. I do not want that future for America.”
— Barack Obama, Jefferson-Jackson Dinner, Des Moines, Iowa, November 10, 2007

This blog is a response to a video found on Barack Obama’s political home page about education and effects on race in inner-city schools. This video contains information about Bronx High School in Bronx, New York where race is an issue amongst inner city kids and creates racial tensions leading to unfit learning areas. The school interviewed students and asked their responses to what they think Obama could bring the nation’s education system. Many of them responded with a positive answer saying he is motivator for kids and they seem like they have been given a sense of hope. These kids seem like they are putting their trust in Obama more than ever. Obama is known for promoting the fact that American education is ready for change, and he preaches that he wants the young diverse vote not because he is black but because he has the same views as the youth which seems to appealing to America’s youth of today.
With these inner-city schools are having problems with racial tensions leading to many problems such as kids not getting educated adequately, and drop out rates being higher than ever Obama posing a solution. One of the ways Obama believes he can slow down this drop out rate is by passing legislation to provide schools with funding to invest in intervention strategies in middle schools. These strategies consist of personal academic plans, teaching teams, parent involvement, mentoring, intensive reading math instruction, and extended learning time.
I think with teaching kids at young age about race it will hopefully lead to less division amongst all races in schools. The formation of clicks in high school is why these inner city schools have such a difficult time getting along leading to an increasing drop out rates. Special programs will a help change a child’s thought process along the lines of race. Kids all learn to get along when they are younger because they don’t know any better. Once they get older and they are able to grasp these more constructive ideas of racial differences is where the problem needs to be addressed. As long as they are continued to be taught to not see others by their appearance and more by ones character then and only then will young adults begin to get along better high schools. Also, I think we shouldn’t take the process that this isn’t possible it will never happen. Obama is willing to attempt to make changes and I think every other American feel the same way towards making a better America.
