Obama and foreign policy experience

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/10/us/politics/10obama.html?st=cse&sq=foreign+policy&scp=3 The article opens up explaining how the other candidates feel that Obama lacks much experience in foreign policy, but Obama disagrees and plans to show them that he doesn’t by linking family members from Kenya and Indonesia and he has even studied in Pakistan. With foreign policy being one of the top issues in the presidential election including the war in Iraq and terrorism, Obama thinks that this is the area where he is most confident in and can relate because of his own life experiences.
Throughout his speech, Obama argues that he has a better grasp on these issues because when he was in those countries he didn’t just talk to their president or anything, he walked around and conversed with the people. He digs into the other candidates and accuses them over not having any of this knowledge.
When it comes to foreign policies, Obama has focused mainly on Iraq and Pakistan and thinks that the US should pull away from Gen. Obama has not addressed his relations or visits to foreign countries in past speeches, but his campaign secretary insures that he has gone and that he really does have family living in these areas.
To this article, I agree that Obama may have a step ahead of the other candidates because he has visited these countries before he was running for president. He saw what it was like when people weren’t talking to him about politics, but about every day struggles. With family living in these countries, he would have better means of communication but then again, he also does have to consider the country as a whole. With his main focus being Iraq and Pakistan and thinking he has the head with them, he should spend the remaining time reaching out to the other countries so that he can keep backing up his thought of having more knowledge then the other contestants.
