Obama on immigration

As the democratic primaries come closer to an end, voters for the undecided states still want to know many things about each candidate. A key issue is immigration and what each candidate plans to do about it. Barack Obama has a plan known as fighting for comprehensive immigration reform. He believes that we should fix this problem by putting aside politics and offering a solution that involves enforcing laws and securing our borders better. In the article of his keys to help immigration, he has a few main points. These include solutions to improve our immigration system and remove incentives to enter illegally.

According to the article, there are between 500,000 and 800,000 people that enter this country illegally. Obama says that we should allow only a certain amount of immigrants into the USA. He also says that we should make them have a name and security check by the F.B.I. and the immigrants will have to pay fee for an application to be a legal citizen. He also suggested that the F.B.I. speed up the process of these checks so the immigrants can become legal faster. I agree with what Obama is saying when he says we need to have security checks on immigrants, but I do not think this will stop people from coming to the country illegally. This will only increase the illegal immigrants that no one knows about because they will not want to wait for the security checks and don’t want to pay for the application.

Another important point on immigration that Obama commented on was removing incentives to enter illegally for immigrants. Obama said that the United States of America needs to crack down on employers who hire immigrants that are illegal and have no documentation to live here. He wants to create an eligibility verification system that verifies that employees are legally eligible to work. This seems like a great idea to me because it would really help crack down on illegal immigrants and employers who use them. Also, this would make sure that employers would have to hire legal American citizens to do these jobs instead of giving them to illegal immigrants. Overall, Obama’s plans on immigration seemed to be heading in the right direction in order to help our country out.
