Obama and Immigration

Christina Bellantoni talks about Obama’s stands for illegal immigration. He takes this issue very seriously. He states: “Immigration is a very serious problem.” He refused to send all illegal immigrants home despite the fact that one person in the audience preferred sending them home. Immigrants shouldn’t be sent home, America was founded on immigrants from Europe. Obama presents logical explanation of the issue. He says that looking for all immigrants, arresting them, or sending them home would be impossible. He states that they should be required to register, pay a fine, taxes, and learn English. Christina declares that the three candidates have the same stands towards the issue of illegal immigrants
Obama also added something about stereotyping and discrimination. He stated that: “Not all of ‘em are from Mexico.” He implies that people from Mexico should be discriminated, rejected, or treated like illegal immigrants. Some of them are legal US citizens and others have US citizen children. So they shouldn’t be thrown outside of the country, on the contrary, they should be conducted through a process to help them become US citizens.
However, with those stands on the issue, Obama is encouraging illegal immigrants to come to the US. With the no risk of getting caught, and help to become US citizens, Illegal immigration might increase, which can affect other issues like poverty and the increase of homeless people. Obama should consider those issues before taking action.
Christina Bellantoni shows a preference to Obama as a candidate. She says that Hilary used similar line to express her views about the illegal immigration issue. Christina also ends her article with a critique of one of Hilary’s quotes comparing herself to the fictional boxer Rocky Balboa. She states that Hilary uses the comparison despite the fact that Rocky loses at the end.
