Global Warming

Barack Obama stated on November 8, 2007 that,“We cannot afford more of the same timid politics when the future of our planet is at stake. Global warming is not a someday problem, it is now. We are already breaking records with the intensity of our storms, the number of forest fires, the periods of drought. By 2050 famine could force more than 250 million from their homes. The polar ice caps are now melting faster than science had ever predicted. This is not the future I want for my daughters. It's not the future any of us want for our children. And if we act now and we act boldly, it doesn't have to be.” Obama has a point when he said that it is not a someday problem. Global warming is happening all around us every day. Government needs to take action now before it gets worse. There is a lot of proof that global warming is happening by all the natural disasters that have happened in the last couple years. If the government does not step in and do something soon, who knows what is going to happen in 2050.
Barack Obama wants to reduce carbon emissions by eighty percent by 2050. He plans on doing this by supporting the implementation of a market-based cap-and-trade system. If Obama is elected president he will immediately start reducing the emissions by establishing annual reduction targets and enforce a mandate of reducing emission levels. Another way Obama is trying to save the world from global warming is by investing $150 billion in a ten year span. He will use this money to invest in research on clean energy projects. He will also invest in a skilled clean technologies workforce. This program will help workers and industries adjust to the new clean technology production. Obama is also setting up a fine that every company must pay for every ton of emission they release. This money will set up a fund for more investment in research.
