Obama's view on Race

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/20/opinion/20kristof.html?ref=opinion&pagewanted=all

There are a lot of topics that I could have picked to blog on but I think that the most interesting one to talk about it race. I mean it is blatant to see that race is a big deal for him because he would be the first black president that the United States has ever had. But he does say that “there is not a black America and a white America... . There’s the United States of America.” I think that this is a bold statement but it is the right one to make in his place. If you think about it is the way that things should be but it just is not the way things are in real life. The idea that race does not matter and that we are all equal is idea that has not been around for a long time. There has always been some type of unevenness between all the races of the world. And the bottom line is that The United States of America has to deal with so many type of discrimination because it is the melting pot of the world.
They also talk about how blacks think that the whites are out to get them and how white people put AIDS into the black population to lower it. And some other crazy things that most black people believed was really going on in the United States. Obama does not believe these things are true. I think that if Obama is the next president that it would solve a lot of problem in the black population. Or a least they will think that the world for them is just a little more far. I think that Obama would give a lot back to the Blacks in the United States because they have been behind the eight ball in our history and I think that it is about time that we did have a black president.
The bottom line that race is also going to bring out a lot more votes this year. I think that record numbers of black are going to come out to vote to have a black man in office. I really that the same thing will happen to women with Hillary. Obama in his run for office is saying that we are not black and white we are one but I think that is because he is trying to get vote that he would not if he went off on how he is for the blacks and just tried to get their votes. The reality is that most of the majority of United States is white and he needed to get that vote too.
This is going to be a very interesting election for the United States this year and I am glad to be a part of it. The article also says that “What’s happening, I think, is that the Obama campaign has led many white Americans to listen in for the first time to some of the black conversation — and they are thunderstruck.” This is really getting people to start talking, a lot of people are going to vote this year because they want someone or the don’t but I think that people stereotype are going to get in the way of the right choice that we need to make as a nation. I think that the way he views race is the smarts way for him to get the votes. But race and gender are going to play a huge part in the election of 2008.
